Our whole wheat bread flour is grown and milled by Frankferd Farms out of Saxonburg, PA. It is organic is made up of 100% hard red spring wheat.
Bread flour has a high protein content, which helps it rise when making bread and holds together dough well. Because this flour is whole wheat, it creates a more dense texture.
This flour is less processed than a typical white flour, so it doesn’t last quite as long. We recommend not purchasing more than you’ll use within a few months and to keep it in an airtight container somewhere cool (it can even be kept in the fridge or freezer).
Many of the recipes below call for whole wheat flour (not whole wheat bread flour), but it can easily be substituted. You can experiment with different flours until you get the texture you like!
We can get many other flours from Frankferd Farms that we don’t sell in the store, such as brown rice, semolina, amaranth, barley, corn, buckwheat, chickpea, quinoa, rye, and mixes for various baked goods.
