A whole grain food that’s packed with fiber, steel cut oats are a filling choice for breakfast!
Steel cut oats are similar to rolled oats, except the kernel is cut into only two or three pieces (with a steel blade) and they have a coarser texture.
Because they are less processed, steel cut oats require more liquid to cook, making larger portions. This means you eat less of them, reducing the number of calories, but still get great nutritional benefits. They also contain more fiber, take longer to digest, and keep you feeling full (learn more).
Steel cut oats take longer to cook, but you can soak them overnight to shorten the time. They have a chewier texture and some people who come into Core Goods have told us they like them much better than rolled.
They can be prepared on the stove top, or in the crockpot or Instant Pot to make cooking them easier. We suggest adding in different ingredients to make them even better, like dried fruit, nut butter, maple syrup, and/or cinnamon.
