Similar to lentils, split peas are a legume that cooks quickly and adds protein and other nutrients to meals.
Split peas are commonly found in soup, but can be used in a variety of ways. They are dried and take about 30-40 minutes to cook, but you can speed up the cooking time by soaking them in water.
