Sesame seeds are common in Asian dishes, but excellent in a variety of other meals, too.
These little seeds are packed with nutrients like copper, manganese, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and iron. They also contain two unique substances–sesamin and sesamolin–which belong to a group of special beneficial fibers called lignans, and have been shown to have a cholesterol-lowering effect (learn more).
These seeds were thought to have first originated in India and were brought to the United States from Africa during the late 17th century.
Currently, the largest commercial producers of sesame seeds include India, China and Mexico (learn more).
Sesame seeds are the main ingredient in tahini (which we also sell at Core Goods) and their oil is resistant to rancidity.
