Brown jasmine rice has a delicious, nutty flavor, with more nutritional benefits than white rice.
There are MANY types of rice–jasmine, basmati, short grain, long grain, wild, parboiled, and more. At Core Goods, we have long grain white and brown jasmine in our bulk bins.
Brown jasmine rice is a variety of long grain rice that is native to Thailand. It has a subtle nutty flavor and a floral aroma, and is delicious with a variety of meals.
It is a whole grain and gluten free, and does not go through the milling process like white rice. Because of this, it still contains the bran and germ, which provide many nutritional benefits, including fiber,
manganese, and selenium (learn more).
Because there are so many types of rice out there, it can be difficult to know how to cook each. Brown rice may need a little more time and water than white and it is recommended to rinse it before cooking.
On the stove top, start with a ratio of 1 cup rice and 1 1/2 cups water. Bring it to a boil, lower the heat, cover, and simmer for abut 20-25 minutes. Keep an eye on the rice, but try not to lift the lid too often so it can steam. If the water has all absorbed but the rice doesn’t seem cooked, simply add a little water. You may need to experiment until you get the rice how you like it. After cooking, leave the lid on for about 10 minutes, then fluff the rice.
