Make your own flavorful vegetable broth with kitchen scraps you already have!
Did you know it’s really simple to make your own broth? Instead of spending money and creating waste by buying cans or cartons of broth, or cubes or pastes (which usually have added ingredients like oils and sugar), you can easily make your own from items you most likely already have in the kitchen.
All it takes is some vegetable scraps, water, and a little patience to whip up this broth. Scraps can include: carrot peels and ends, mushroom stems, celery leaves, garlic and onion skins, kale and herb stems, and more.
TIP: Keep a container or bag of vegetable scraps in your freezer and add to it as you make meals. Over time, you’ll have a lot of them ready to be made into broth!
You can also get creative and add various items for more flavor and nutritional benefits, like bay leaves, garlic cloves, peppercorns, ginger, apple cider vinegar, turmeric, and parmesan cheese rinds.
After making the broth, use it right away, or let it cool and refrigerate or freeze.
